Doctors and patients are under threat of epidemic outbreak
because of rotting dead bodies in the morgue of the hospital.
The head of the medical centre Ibrahim Adamu told the
press that the situation with dozens dead bodies in the
centre’s morgue has become critical. The corpses remain
unburied for years because police officers, who have dumped
them in the hospital’s mortuary, failed to identify the bodies
for years – most of them victims of armed robbery or
accidents.
And those slowly decomposing corpses, many of whom lie in
the hospital’s morgue over three years, now pose a threat for
health of both the hospital’s personnel and the patients.
There’s a risk of disease outbreak in the hospital which is the
only such facility in Karu local government and is being
attended by at least 200 patients every day.
“ We are appealing to Karu local government authorities and
the police to arrange for their burial ,” Ibrahim Adamu told,
adding that “evacuation of these corpses will promote not
only the health of our workers, but also health of our
patients, especially those on admissions. ”
Ten months ago dead bodies have been festering for many
days along busy Iyana Iba Road, Ojo Local Government
Area, Lagos State, just outside the entrance to the Lagos
state University.
