Chelsea have announced the signing of Pedro from
Barcelona on a four-year deal.
A product of Barca’s La Masia academy, Pedro scored 39
goals in 326 appearances since his debut in 2008.
He made 50 appearances last season and won his third
Champions League winner’s medal with the Baulgranas same
season. The winger, who could also be employed on the
centre-forward position has five Spanish Primeira Division
winner’s medal to his credit also from his time at the Camp
Nou.
Pedro told the club’s website : “I am very happy to be here.
I am very excited to start my adventure at Chelsea and I
am here to keep winning titles.
“Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the
opportunity to put the blue shirt on.”
The 28-year-old is the club’s fourth signing of the transfer
window after goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, striker Radamel
Falcao and full-back Baba Rahman.
The Blues are also linked with a move for England
international John Stones from Everton, but have reportedly
had three offers turned down by the Merseyside club.
Manchester United and Manchester City were the other
clubs who had indicated interest in Pedro, until the Premier
League champions moved in swiftly to trigger the Spaniard’s
€30m (£21m) release clause.
Pedro, who came off the bench to score Barca’s match-
winner in last week’s Uefa Super Cup victory over Sevilla,
was part of Spain’s squad which won the World Cup (2010)
and the European Championship (2008 and 2012).
