This is no photoshop, but a clear picture of
Manchester United’s captain, Wayne Rooney,
playing for his former club, Everton, over
the weekend.
Rooney, coming-on as a substitute.
Wayne Rooney was among the players who starred
in a testimonial match for Duncan Ferguson at
Goodison Park, and was given a massive standing
ovation by the club’s fans when he came on as a
substitute for the last 15 minutes of the encounter.
According to BBC Sports, Rooney, 29, made 77
appearances for Everton before joining Manchester
United for £25m in 2004 and in front of 34,718 fans
he came on against Villarreal.
“I didn’t know what to expect with the reception, but the
fans were great,” Rooney told Everton TV.
“I really appreciated it. More importantly it was a big
day for Duncan. I said to him before the game that it
was the most nervous I had seen him,” the England
star added.
The Yellow Submarines won 2-1, with ex-Blues
striker Ferguson coming on in the 83rd minute.
Rooney, who has frequently received a hostile
reception from Everton fans anytime he returned to
Goodison Park with United, is expected to start
United’s first game of the 2015-16 Premier League
season against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford
on August 8.
