An unidentified man is dead in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, following police chase on fuel black marketers.
The man, an eye witness told Naij.com that some police officers under Special Anti-robbery Squad were chasing after the fuel black market sellers in Lugbe area of Abuja when the man was knocked off from his motorcycle.
“The SARS were chasing after black market sellers and a bike man got knocked off his bike with his legs shattered and his eyes bloodied,” the witness who simply identified himself as Seyi said.
Seyi said the police also rubber bullets on many other people standing by in around the location.
“The police shot tear gas at people standing by in a bid to disperse them while they try to evacuate his bike after the guy’s own people came to evacuate the dead body,” he said.
He also added residents who had shops around Lugbe were already locking their shops in search of shelter and safe areas.
Seyi added: “The situation is so tensed here that all shops and are closed as at this moment and people who are just coming back from work are running helter skelter not knowing what actually happened.”
As at the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory, Anjuguri Manzah, could not be reached for reaction on the incident.
