The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened the federal government over the current fuel scarcity in the country.

According to Leadership, NLC has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to immediately intervene in the current hardship in the country as a result of scarcity of the product.

In a statement issued by its president, Ayuba Wabba, NLC stated that fuel scarcity may hinder the ability of workers to get to their work stations and may compel them to ask their workers to stay at home.

Wabba stated Nigerians are disturbed by the recurrence of the petrol, and have not been informed of its cause, stating however, that the government will not allow any individual or corporate organisations sabotage efforts to restore sanity and good governance to the country.

He added that the ongoing scarcity is a plan by the petroleum marketers at sabotaging the present administration and sell the products at high prices for more profits.

“Therefore we call on government to strongly intervene by sending out appropriate agencies, especially the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to enforce the sale of the products as some marketers have been reported to be hoarding the products.

“We restate our call for the speedy reactivation of local production of petroleum products as the country will continue to be held hostage by global economic manipulations if we remain tied to importation of petroleum products,” the statement read in part.

Recently, motorists passing the routes after the Niger bridge at Asaba/Onitsha refused to buy fuel after Delta state due to the prices of fuel in those areas.

A Naij.com correspondent who traveled from Lagos to Owerri via Asaba in Delta state and Onitsha in Anambra state witnessed the high number of cars at stations before the River Niger bridge but fewer queues after.
