The baby is believed to be one of three survivors in a
plane crash that occurred shortly after takeoff, killing
up to 41 people. However, the exact number of the
deceased is unknown, as they are still recovered from
the plane wreckage.

Sudanese officials report about 18 people onboard,
15 of whom died, while a Reuters correspondent
counted 41 bodies at the site and the South Sudan Red

Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said the six
crew members were comprised of five Armenians and
one Russian, while other passengers were locals. He
also confirmed that three people, including a child less
than a year old and an elderely woman, had survived
the crash.

This information was refuted by South Sudan’s
transport minister, who said only two people had
been found alive, but one of them later died. It is not
yet clear what caused the crash, there are assumptions
about engine failure and the plane overloading.

Kenyi Galla, assistant operations manager for
Combined Air Services said: “Normally (this flight)
used to carry 12 people, but the problem is they added
more people. This plane is just for cargo, not for
passengers. It was just chartered for goods.”
