According to The Punch, the 21 students were reportedly arrested at two unnamed state-owned polytechnics in Asaba.
There are speculation that the students engaged in same sex activities for financial benefits.
Celestina Kalu, a spokesperson for the state police, confirmed the arrests and said detectives had acted on a tip-off.

“We had it on good authority that the male students allegedly engaged in anal sex,’ she told Punch newspaper.
“The suspects, upon interrogation, made useful statements to the police while investigations are ongoing,” Kalu said.
In May, another set of  21 young men were apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo state, for allegedly being in a ‘gay cult.’

The young men who were caught, reportedly had 122 condoms between them.
Police said when they raided the suspects house, they were holding an ‘initiation’ ceremony into their ‘evil’ group.
Following pressure by some human rights group, the young men were released on bail.
In Nigeria, gay sex is a crime, punishable by up to 14 years imprisonment in non-Sharia states, and death by stoning in Sharia states.
