All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Dr Ismail Adewusi, has offered hope to Nigerians on his belief in the 2017 budget as the needed catalyst to end the current economic recession.
Dr Adewusi, who was the Commissioner for Finance, in the administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in Lagos State, stated on Monday, shortly after his visit to the APC Secretariat Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“We are monitoring and looking at the enormity of the budget and coming to conclusion that it will take the country out of the economic recession, which Nigerians have since faced,” he said.
Adewusi also called on workers in Oyo State to show understanding on the state of the nation’s economy, as regards their salary arrears. He said the issue is a national question which President Buhari is attending to, with a view to finding a solution to it.
The politician specifically attributed the economic problem to what he called failure of the past administrations, to implement development-driven policies, assuring the workers and the entire Nigerians that the current administration has shown the will to fix the problem.
“About 27 states of the Federation owe their workers. What does this tell us? It means the problem is not peculiar to Oyo State and it will be wrong to single out the state for blame or condemnation. But I am positive that with the efforts President Buhari is making, there is hope for the states and their workers,” he said.
According to Dr Adewusi, his visit to the party secretariat was his first after he had returned to the party, saying it is an act to further identify with the party and the good work the party is doing. He acknowledged the steadfastness of his supporters, urging them to remain consistent as good party members.
