Political violence in Nigeria has taken a sophisticated dimension. It has become a central part of political competition in the society.
This ugly trend of violence ranges from electoral, religious, ethnic and cultism. These violent practices have led to a widespread of insecurity in the nation.
Despite the federal government promise to put an end to Boko Haram insurgence by the end of 2016, below are series of violence that has happened in December.
1. December 18
On this fateful day suspected Boko Haram militants killed one fisherman and attempted to kidnap sixteen others in Ngadiya, Borno. Although the local government is unknown but a counter-attack launched by Nigerian forces made it possible for these terrorists to kidnap only one person.
2. December 18
This violent attack was launched on Sunday at Osun state. The attack was between cultists. This cult clash in Osogbo led to the death five.
3. December 18
Still on the same day but different location, two suicide bombers killed themselves. Since there are no civilians in Maiduguri, Borno Boko Haram sect is the primary suspect.
4. December 18
Numbers of causalities seem to be on its high side this day as another violent attack was at Taraba state.
This sectarian violence led to twenty deaths in Gassol, Taraba.
5. December 19
Another attack launched on the next as a continued sectarian violence. Still at Gassol, Taraba, the violence led to death of Seven.
6. December 22
Nigerian troops killed two would-be suicide bombers in Gwoza, Borno. Boko Haram is suspected.
7. December 22
Just few days to Christmas, December 22, the Nigerian troops killed two suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers in Mafa, Borno.
8. December 22
Still on Thursday, December 22, a gang of armed robbers abducted a council chairman and killed a commissioner in Langtang South, Plateau.
9. December 23
The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to put an end to the Boko Haram insurgence in the country.
On Friday, December 23, Buhari claims to have taken the last Boko Haram stronghold in Sambisa, Borno but there were no casualty figures.
