The presidency has unveiled the six social protection programmes promised by President Muhammadu Buhari which would make life better for Nigerians.

The social protection plan has been segmented into six plans and they are; teach Nigeria, youth empowerment programme, conditional cash transfer, home-grown school feeding programme, free education for tertiary institutions and the micro-credit scheme.



According to Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president, the collective wealth will be invested in phased social programmes that will lift majority of Nigerians from poverty.

1. Teach Nigeria plan: 500,000 teachers would be hired, trained and deployed in public schools by the Federal Government under the Teach Nigeria segment.

2. The youth empowerment programme: Between 300,000 and 500,000 youths go through skill acquisition and vocational training.

3. Conditional cash transfer programme: N5,000 would be paid monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians.

4. Homegrown school feeding: This will cater for public and primary school pupils as one decent and nutritious meal per day would be provided for them.

5. Micro credit scheme, the Federal Government would give N60bn loan to one million artisans and market women and men.

6. Free tertiary education: 100,000 students of science, technology, engineering and mathematics will have acces to free education.

President Buhari recently appointed Maryam Uwais as the special adviser on social protection plan , a source in the presidency disclosed. She was deployed to the office of vice president, Yemi Osibajo, where she is coordinating the administration’s social protection schemes, including a N60billion micro-credit scheme for artisans and market women.
