EFCC arrests own operatives Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu over extortion of military officers in the arms deal scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one of its operatives following claims over extortion.



According to a report on Premium Times, the accused, Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu, a deputy detective superintendent, was arrested on Monday, January 25, following intelligence report alleging that he extorted $150,000 from some military officers on the pretence of securing a soft landing for them in the on-going investigation into the arms deal scandal.

In a statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC’s spokesperson, it was gathered that a search was executed on Biu’s residence in Abuja.

Upon the search, the following items were recovered: $20,000 cash, N500, 000 cash, two police uniforms bearing his name with the ranks of Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, Police warrant card No: 27/2014 with the rank of DSP allegedly obtained from Kano Constabulary office, documents relating to military arms investigation and account information of several senior military officers.

Other items found include: unbranded pistol with a magazine and ten live ammunitions. All items were found in his car parked in the premises.

According to Uwujaren, Biu’s offences include dropping the names of ranking officers of the commission, claiming he was acting on their behalf. A paper containing seven of such names was recovered in his house.
It was gathered the suspect has made his statement as investigation continues.

The EFCC arrest on Biu comes just hours after the anti-graft agency also arrested A bumere Joseph Osagie, the deputy director, regional tax office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over an alleged case of abuse of office and bribery .
