Man kills mother two days after being released from prison

Steven Pratt was 15 years old when he beat up his neighbour with a lead pipe and later shot him dead following a dispute.

Pratt has pleaded guilty to killing his mother just days after he was released from a 30-year prison sentence
The teenager was tried as an adult and convicted of murder in Atlantic City, New Jersy, US, in 1986. He served his 30-year sentence at a maximum security prison and was released only in October 2014.

His family and friends organised a welcome home party to celebrate his new life but soon afterwards he broke the law again. Steven killed his own mother, Gwendolyn Pratt, 64… two days after her came out of prison.

Her body was found by police officers at their family house police she died from blunt injuries to the head. He was arrested and arraigned on murder charges.
In court, crying Steven confessed to his mother’s death and said he didn’t want a trial: “I have failed. I don’t want a trial. I’m guilty.”

Mr Pratt, who is 47 years old at the moment, faces 25 years in prison and must serve 85% of his sentence before he’ll be eligible for parole.
