No fewer than six soldiers have been killed near Grabo town, following a clash between some unknown gunmen and soldiers guarding Ivory Coast’s restive western region.
Unknown gunmen reportedly attacked positions of security forces within the Western region of Ivory Coast.
The soldiers were killed on Wednesday, December 2, in attacks targeting security forces close to the country’s border with Liberia.
Paul Koffi Koffi , the defence minster confirmed that six soldiers were killed, along with four attackers.
Koffi made this disclosure while addressing the situation in a national broadcast.

Security sources told AFP that the gunmen had attacked several army positions near Grabo town, in an area where land disputes have led to ethnic tensions and loss of many lives.
According to local sources, firing had gone on for several hours, forcing residents to take cover in various hideouts.
Investigations are still on to ascertain who the gunmen were, as no claims have been made to the attack.
A similar attack was carried out in August, when ten Ivory Coast soldiers were killed in two raids by unidentified gunmen in Abidjan, the economic capital.
CNN reports that the attacks come just before the country celebrated its independence on Friday, August 7
In January, about 20 unidentified gunmen targeted security forces left two soldiers dead within the same area.
